JODY BURKE BALTZER
Lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I am an American self-taught mixed media abstract artist, living in New Mexico. I work in mixed media abstract painting, sculpture and jewelry. Much gratitude goes to my grandmother, a milliner and a wonderful fabric artist. Growing up and living mostly in large cities, I was highly influenced by culture and architecture. Also, nature in all its variety, beauty and forms has been a comfort and inspiration. Meditation has been a part of my life for many years.
Working and experimenting with many materials keeps me energized. These materials include, acrylic paint and acrylic panels, canvas and wood panels, metal, stone, wire, paper, recycled, and found objects when possible. For jewelry, I use sterling silver metal, wire, and casting grains. Also included are turquoise, pearls, topaz, labradorite, quartz, rhinestones, mirror, silver gravel and herkimer diamonds. With these materials, I explore pattern, texture, balance and contrast.
The dance between the man-made world and the natural world continually enchants me… forever seeking and making the inner journey to self, and the outer journey to life, as expressed in my work.
